Fanart Guidelines/Exceptions

Some series have specific rules to follow due to their inclusion in the TCG being special cases. Category-specific guidelines are also posted.

Fanart Guidelines/Exceptions

Post by Cami »

Illustrations drawn by artists associated with a series - either because they are the character designer or because they're the artist for official series adaptations outside of the most well-known ones - DO NOT count as fanart. For example, Tanemura Arina did the character designs for IDOLiSH7 and Hidou Ren is the artist for the official manga adaptation of StarMyu - therefore, their art is considered official for those series.

Fanart is different in that the artist who drew the illustration is not affiliated in any way with the series depicted in the artwork. However, I realize that there is a bit of a "gray area" where artists will draw art from a series as a tribute to the original artists. Because of this, the following guidelines and exceptions are in place:
  • Fanart may only be used if it was drawn by an officially published artist - meaning that they have more than just doujinshi in their portfolio. (Ex: UtaPri fanart drawn by Carnelian would be allowed but fanart from someone that has only ever published doujinshi - no matter how well-drawn it is would not be allowed.)
  • Fanart may only be used for Idol Compilation Albums and Collaboration Stage - with one exception.
    • A link to where we can see other works by the fan artist in question is required.
    • Fanart may only be submitted to Collaboration Stage if the round goes into overtime (a.k.a when I explicitly state that those who have already donated 2 images are allowed to donate another).
  • If a member is having trouble filling out a character donation (meaning that they're having issues finding at least 21 images), then they may privately contact Cami (me) to let her know that fanart may be included. The donation staff and other deck makers will be informed of this possibility so that they know that they are "last resort" images.
    • Contacting Cami is mandatory if you feel you need to include fanart in your character deck donation because of image scarcity. Sending advance notice lets us know that you tried to find official images.
    • You MUST wait for Cami to reply to your message - even if you ask through Discord - before posting your donation link(s). If Cami forgets to inform the deck makers and donation staff, you need that reply as proof that you have approval to have the fanart included.
    • Fanart must be within a separate folder within the donation folder - and one file in that folder must be a text file with a list of the fan artists that drew each image. This is so the donation staff can cross-check to see if the artists would fall under the "officially published" umbrella.
